Suraj Education — School App with Live Bus Tracking

A school management app where parents watch the school bus move on a live map.

The problem

For a parent, the scariest 40 minutes of a school day are the ones where their child is on a bus somewhere between school and home. Suraj Education wanted an app that answered "where is the bus right now?" with a moving dot on a map, not a phone call to the driver — wrapped inside a school management app handling the daily communication between school and home.

What I built

A Flutter app for parents and school staff with live location at its heart.

  • Live bus tracking. The bus's position streams to a Google Map in the parent app in real time. Parents watch the bus approach their stop instead of waiting on the roadside guessing — and the school office sees every route at once.
  • Reliability where it matters. Location tracking has to survive real conditions: spotty mobile networks, drivers' phones going briefly offline, app restarts mid-route. The tracking pipeline recovers from all of these without parents seeing a frozen dot in the wrong place.
  • School-to-home communication. Announcements and circulars pushed via FCM so they actually arrive, plus the day-to-day records parents check in: attendance, homework, and school updates in one place instead of a WhatsApp group with 400 unread messages.
  • Role-based access. Parents, teachers, and administrators see different apps inside the same codebase — each role gets its own workflows without three separate builds to maintain.

Outcome

The school shipped an app parents open every day — live bus tracking is the daily-habit feature, and school communication rides along on it. The front office answers fewer "where is the bus?" calls; parents get their answer from a map.

Education, logistics, anything with live location — see mobile app development or ID Rooms for more Maps-heavy work.
